YFilm Distortion
15 image treatments: ASCII, dithering, halftone, pixel sort, VHS and more, each with its own styles.
Fifteen effects that reinterpret the picture rather than blur it: ASCII, dithering, halftone, matrix rain, dots, contour, pixel sort, blockify, threshold, edge detection, crosshatch, wave lines, noise field, voronoi and VHS. Each has its styles and its own defaults.
Put it on footage, a precomp or an adjustment layer. The layer's alpha is kept, or you can output only the marks on transparency.
- Effect and Style menus, with only the selected effect's controls shown.
- Input adjust: brightness, contrast, gamma, saturation and invert before the effect.
- Colour mode: marks in the image's colours, or ink on paper with your own two colours. Mix blends back.
- Post: grain, scanlines, vignette and chromatic aberration.
- Motion: speed, time offset and seed. Matrix rain, noise field, voronoi and VHS animate on their own.
- Alpha: keep the layer's alpha, marks only, or solid.
- Nuke: Nuke 13 or later, BlinkScript
- After Effects: AE 2022 or later on macOS 11+ (Apple Silicon and Intel). 8, 16 and 32 bpc.
- Windows AE: A GLSL build running on the free DynamicFX plug-in is included for AE 2025 and 2026 on Windows.
